Choose the right consistency for your Dutch Pour!
Переглядів 9 тис.9 місяців тому
When doing a Dutch pour you don't want paint that is too thick as it won't get cells and it won't spread out very well. You dont want super thin paint either as it has a greater chance of muddying the colors and of getting grainy looking (flocculation). I show you what the same painting looks like with THICK, MEDIUM, and THIN paint and why each one is different so you can choose the right consi...

    So do I need something else to help make the cells. Do I need pouring medium or something like that? Or can I just use water to help the flow?

    • @LeftBrainedArtist
      @LeftBrainedArtist 9 годин тому

      You can get cells with just paint and water. I like using Floetrol for smaller cells and glue and silicone for larger cells.

    HI. USE ( CA Glue Activator ) You can use any type of CA Glue (aka SUPER Glue ) or buy the packs together. You put the super glue on one side and then spray the connecting side with the Acitvator , and it dries in 3 seconds. It works on wood, pvc and anything ca glue will adhire to. I buy the activator on the big A online together. I get the 13-15 oz spray can. it last for monts. And I buy the ca glue at the big box store. remember to keep your ca glue in the freezer after opening it. This keeps it from drying out so fast. well that is my 2 cents. I am forced to buy the cheap frames untill i get better at pouring.

    If you are trying to make skins and it’s coming out to thin to peel off what should you do, I tried putting more paint in to thicken my paint but it didn’t really get thicker?

    • @LeftBrainedArtist
      @LeftBrainedArtist День тому

      Depends on the pouring medium. Glue and floetrol are really thin. Add a little bit of liquitex or another professional pouring medium to give it some body and they will peel off way better. 10% or so of the total mix is plenty.

    So you are saying that mica powders with water (or Josanya) don't have a density, ie" opaque, transparent, etc. Only the paint you mix with the pigments determines the density??

    • @LeftBrainedArtist
      @LeftBrainedArtist 5 днів тому

      Water has a density for sure. Denisy is actual compaing other meterials to the same volume of water. All mediums you add it to can affect density but if all your mixed paints are using the exact same mix for your pouring medium then only the things that are different, eg. pigments, really affect relative density. Does that make sense heather? Denisty and opacity are two completely different things. Density is weight ratio and opacity is how light passes through the mix.

    Can i try this method if i already painted my 1st coat with a brush and ended up with streaks? Will your method fix the streaks if i apply 2 or more coats with a cloth?

    • @LeftBrainedArtist
      @LeftBrainedArtist 5 днів тому

      If you apply enough it will help but probably never get rid of them entirely. You just aren't putting enough on to cover with this method. You could try and just cover it just like you would a pour with your varnish. Pouring Your Heart Out has some videos on how she does it like that. I just think it uses too much vartnish per painting and I am cheap with my ingredients when I can be.
